Exterior Painting

The outside of a house in Western Massachusetts takes a beating. Freeze-thaw cycles open gaps at joints, summer sun chalks and fades south-facing walls, and spring moisture finds any spot where old paint has lifted. An exterior repaint is about appearance, but it is equally about protecting the wood, fiber cement or trim boards underneath. That is why our exterior projects in West Springfield put most of the effort into preparation.

Before any color goes on, we wash or clean surfaces to remove dirt, mildew and chalky residue, then scrape loose and peeling paint and feather-sand the edges so they do not telegraph through the new coat. Bare wood is primed, open seams and gaps around windows and trim are caulked, and small areas of soft or damaged wood are pointed out to you so you can decide how to address them before they are sealed in.

Timing matters outside. Paint needs dry surfaces and suitable temperatures to cure properly, so we schedule exterior work around the forecast and adjust when rain or a cold night is coming. Exterior painting involves long days on ladders, often two or three stories up, and a lot of scraping and sanding before any paint is applied.
